2001 vintage

The 2001 vintage was a surprise. It has a deep crimson colour with hints of violet. The nose is splendidly powerful, but once again, elegance prevails. The aromas recall pickled plums, blackberries and elderberries, combined with a blend of vanilla and sweet spices and a dark chocolate finish.

The structure is very present and the wine shows great complexity, yet still needs a few more years to open up fully. Magnificent length, minerality and freshness in the mouth. This vintage is definitely a match for the 2000.

HARVESTING

Harvest dates:

- Merlot: 27 September to 2 October
- Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon: 5 to 7 October

Average yield: 45 hl/ha

BLENDING

- Cabernet Sauvignon: 67%
- Merlot: 24%
- Cabernet Franc: 9%

We began to put the wine in barrels from mid October 2001. This process was completed by mid November. The final blending took place in January 2002.

MATURING

Château DURFORT-VIVENS 2001 was matured in barrels for eighteen months with 40% new barrels. Fining was carried out with natural egg whites.
